It doesn't appear that I created a post for the first Relief Society activity that I somehow allowed myself to organize - and then I got called as Chief . . .
I don't know what happened to Aimee - why she stopped coming. She was the chairperson but didn't seem really dedicated to her calling - though I had just been called to the committee before she stopped coming. I think for the most part Aurelia and I met with a partial committee and made assignments. I remember doing some craft projects in November 2015 (I think it was)but I don't remember meeting as a committee after that - although we tried. It felt like it was always just Aurelia, her daughter and me.
I guess I was held responsible for the activity as I had suggested the idea. There are several blogs which share a speed friendshipping among sisters. Herel is one.
We had scheduled the activity for my former ward in West Valley - the last activity I would attend in that ward - or had planned to attend rather. Uncle Ross passed away and I told the RS pres that I could either help set up or be at the activity, but as the viewing took place on that same night, I couldn't do both. I felt obligated to be with the family.
So I missed the activity. I felt bad. I didn't get any feedback. I don't think it was well attended. I am sorry for the lack of turn out for my former WV ward. The activity was very successful in Myrtle Creek.
We decorated six round tables with signs. Each had a color, a number and a shape. Each sister wore a name tag with assorted color, number and shape. She would spend ten minutes at one table and move to another table hopefully to meet with a completely different set of sisters. I had cut out a bunch of conversation starters if they couldn't seem to come up with any on their own.
Aimee was there to assist. Actually, there were several who assisted. It turned out great. I had told Aurelia that I didn't mind being on the committee, but I did not wish to be chief (the director) I think I was called to be the activities director within two months of our "friendship" activity.
It's not a bad calling I guess. Unlike some of my other wards, we are only expected to come up with three activities a year. The RS presidency comes up with two activities and we have one or two with the stake. The RS birthday is done on a stake level.
In this post I explained my frustrations of limited activities with a handful of sisters. And so I did the patriotic one as it was easier to delegate few assignments. The last one we did was on gratitude. Sisters would be called to the committee but often seem to bail (for whatever reason) and so we made up our own committee - whoever was willing to come. There were usually only four of us. On Tuesday we had six! Aurelia and Bonnie are both counselors and attend Relief Society. Karron does when she can. Maranda and Kandace both work, and I am in the primary.
For our next month's activity, Maranda had suggested one similar to the friendship activity that took place last year. She had actually suggested two activities, and we decided we would combine them. I asked Maranda if she would conduct and explain our activity to the sisters. She is taking charge. Aurelia and I were both worried about her taking on too much - and I told her what had happened last year when I had "taken over". Unlike Irene, I haven't dropped out of coming to Church (we do see her now and again - not too often) but I do have more responsibilities with my other calling. I will remain on the committee but am more than happy to turn the reins over to someone else - whether she would like them or not.
