The Sights and Sounds of Utah . . . NNNOOOOOO

Corey has had to deal with the challenge of driving to work in Las Vegas construction or attempt to try and maneuver himself around it.   Ah, the good old days (not) of experiencing that very thing in Salt Lake.   I suppose Las Vegas and SLC can afford to put up detour signs - though it seems inconvenience - there is the option of using other streets.   Not so true in this part of Oregon.           I told Corey that has been another plus to living here.   Sometimes I have noticed Roseburg streets seem at a shutdown, but here in Myrtle Creek, the road construction has generally been less than a week.   Cones go up, signs go up, but they either move down the road or else disappear altogether.           There was the inconvenience of going South on Old Pacific during a few months last year, but hey, Old Pac...

The Flies Didn't Drown - They Froze to Death

This will be my fourth year going to South Umpqua Memorial Pool for water fitness.    I remember the temperature of the water being opposite of the air temperature in the past two years.   But this year has been like river water regardless of whether the air has been warm or not.    The last few times I've attended, I never did manage to warm up - except for yesterday.   And that was when I got out. Yesterday was the first day this year that I saw bugs in the water - all tiny corpses floating around.

St. Patrick's Grunge Pledges

Our Saturdays are usually tied up with plans - most of the time it's been going to Roseburg to do shopping, though there are the occasional weekends our plans are attending various activities here in Myrtle Creek or surrounding areas.  Occasionally we actually have a free Saturday which is what I had supposed this last weekend, but Jenna reminded me that I said I would drive her over to the pool to watch the "Grunge Plunge".                  Most of the pictures I share are cropped screenshots of live event video posted to South Umpqua Memorial Pool page on March 17, 2018                    On March 4 last year, South Umpqua Memorial Pool held its first ever "Grunge Plunge".  I didn't even know about it until after the fact ...

Where is the Sun?

I had not noticed what the temperature was when I left the house this morning, but it was cold. I grabbed a jacket and slipped on some long pants before I went. It's felt so hot for so long the drop in temperature makes it seem cold.   I didn't want our swim instructor to be there by herself.   Two other students showed.   The water was colder than the air was.   After fifteen minutes of movement, I still wasn't warm.   I got out of the pool just after 9:30.   It was warmer outside than in the pool.   It is still overcast, but no rain yet.         There was a misty fog hanging over the hills this morning.   I love that sight, but think I enjoyed it more this morning believing it has helped clear some of the smoke - though yesterday was not as bad as Tuesday.   Skies were hazy with smoke since the solar eclipse had passed.   That isn't healthy to breathe.   ...

It's a Slow Process but We're Getting There

There was a magic show last night in Riddle but I missed it as I had told one of the girls that I would fill in for her at the library.   She hadn't been feeling well for a few days and my schooling is not as demanding when I have only one class.             Last night I worked my first shift at the library.   I felt bad for not having received proper training or retaining those few things which I had learned.   I really think we ought to have a training session and will mention at our next meeting.   As of now, we are using cards and pockets as was done before computers.   Everything is filed by date - which presents a challenge when the book is returned without a date - or a pocket for that matter.   I think some books just get put in the drop when users have finished looking at them in the library, but had never been checked ou...
